The meeting of opposites or the harmony of the impossible, in a lamp that lightly combines – almost with humor – the nobility of wood, the utilitarian mechanics of the cogwheel, here as an aesthetic adornment, and the delicate and eternal linen. Still conjugates the vintage and the industrial in a multi-faceted piece.
Production
The production process, entirely manual, involved, in addition to the creative aspect, the treatment of the wooden trunk, as well as the choice, production and assembly of accessories.
The trunk started by being peeled. It then took a cleaning pre-sanding, followed by a finer and more refined sanding, which makes the surface smooth to the touch. This was followed by insecticide, fungicide, anti-termites and anti-weevil treatment. After these procedures were completed, the trunk was given a pore-covering product, followed by a final sanding. The wood is finished with a natural beeswax finish produced by Light It Be.
Respecting the capricious nature of things, in particular that of wood, and liking it for that very reason, for having its moods, it was consciously chosen not to shape, trim, level or saw the trunks due to production, aesthetic or other needs. We were the ones who turned, adapted, invented and reinvented around each challenge, around each trunk, around each unevenness, crack or knot. Because all wood is already beautiful by nature. Because where some see flaws or defects, we only see beauty.
All Light It Be lamps are the outcome of many hours of dedicated manual work, resulting in unique and unrepeatable pieces of enormous quality and unique aesthetics. Produced by hand and with passion, in a handmade and sustainable way, each Light It Be is a useful object of enormous decorative value.
Gear lamp uses an E27 black plastic socket, mounted on a black metal tube that culminates in a 1/2” brass union and Auto Timing Spool. Most of the pieces used reinvent the first functionality of each component, because there is a lot of life and originality beyond the obvious.
