Lampshades – How to create the desired atmosphere

Lampshades are the wardrobe of any lamp. They are sublimators of the lamp's full potential. Without the right 'clothing', the extraordinary can pass for banal.

the sophisticated

Silk, linen and velvet. This is the triumvirate of sophistication in the world of textiles, therefore, lamps too. Depending on the texture of the weft and the way they were woven, these fibers add elegance and define exquisite styles. Silk is delicate and rich and its own luminosity lends shine to any color. Linen is falsely unpretentious, as it is naturally elegant. When its weave is wide, it is generous in filtering the light, at the same time as it warms it up. The extravagant velvet (either cotton or silk), woven by kings with a theatrical soul, is denser, so it doesn't let as much light through. On the other hand, in addition to enhancing any color, due to their particular texture and shine, they are ideal for recreating fairytale atmospheres or romantic environments. Velvet and silk are the princes of semi-light and bohemian style.

the refreshing ones

Linen, cotton, raffia and straw. Only the enunciation of these matters creates sunny and summery mental pictures. They lead us to scenarios of houses with their feet in the sand, or rural huts. They are, however, the most versatile and adaptable. Linen and cotton with a rough and rustic finish lend themselves to a multitude of decorative styles, ranging from the country to the most elegant. When delicately spun, they match the delicacy of silk, sharing first places with it.

Raffia and straw fit perfectly in tropical, rustic, Provencal or seafront environments. They are matters of the earth and with it they rhyme perfectly. An exotic beat that finds space in more current styles, such as shabby chic: retro or vintage, for the relaxed way in which they mix styles and pieces. They are suitable for everything from the arid landscapes of the cactus, to the lush forests of palm trees or mangroves. Scenarios where we easily imagine Light It Be lamps.

the country

Burlap, jute, raffia, wicker. Appetizing coarsely woven or simply braided vegetable yarns, with irregular finishes, handcrafted and worked, fibers honestly clinging to their first state and worked by hand. Wild and seductive, they can completely change the language of a lamp and naturally bring it closer to certain styles, such as rustic, country or more sailor and country types. They can also serve as a counterpoint to the delicacy of a lamp base that was first framed in another environment. Doing a different reading of what seems obvious is an asset not to be neglected in the decoration. Risking is the best of verbs. If it doesn't look good, change it. It's very simple.

For all the reasons and one more, these are subjects that naturally cling to our wooden lamps.

Light It Be lampshades

In our humble workshop we particularly like solid and reliable cotton, daring linen, seductive silk, honest jute and wild burlap. Pure materials applied to simple geometric shapes. After all, why exaggerate the figures of style when the narrative says it all? Uncomplicating is an art that we should improve.

We like cotton for its soft touch and the way it plays and respects the light, breaking it gently without neutering it. Mainly in white or elegant tobacco tones. With or without texture, cotton lampshades are undeniably elegant without imposing themselves too much on a lamp that is already full of character and idiosyncrasies. That's why they seem like the perfect match.

The linen, more or less textured, gives freshness and lightness to the wooden lamp, and the communication they establish is one of mutual appreciation. Linen reinforces the plant origin of both materials: wood and fabric. Natural tones, close to the color of origin, appear to be the most suitable and allow to enhance the dynamics of the trunks of the lamps. Light It Be , which do not require extra tricks.

The silk, sophisticated and elegant, contrasts delicately with the undeniable purity of our maple trunks. They, with a pure soul, unpretentious and without vanity. She, the silk, refined and perfected, the fruit of tireless and laborious weavers.

Jute or burlap. Textured, rough, with a pleasant vegetal odor and relaxed are other materials for which we have a particular affection. Honest, pure, natural and simple they are tough, durable and timeless. An outfit suitable for lamps that can be described in exactly the same way. These fabrics emphasize the rustic side of wood and help to reinforce industrial styles, vintage or country. They also reiterate the natural origin of the elements.

In addition to sticking exclusively to natural fibers, our lampshades are all produced in Portugal. I mean, it's all done here.
